EPFO members alert! Provident Fund regulator credits 8.5 pct PF interest; do EPF passbook balance check online at epfindia.gov.in

However, there is still some EPFO subscribers who are complaining about non-credit of the PF interest in their EPF account. For near 6 crore EPFO members, it’s advisable to do EPF balance check online by logging in at the official EPFO portal — epfindia.gov.in.

As per the EPFO website – epfindia.gov.in, in an EPF account, an employee contributes 12 per cent of his or her salary towards the EPF account, and an equal amount is contributed by the employer. EPFO is the nodal body of EPF and allows EPFO subscribers to view the EPF passbook balance online through its website. EFPO also provides the EPF balance information via missed call facility and SMS service.

Those EPFO members, who don’t have internet enabled android or smartphone, can also check their EPF passbook balance by giving a missed call at 011-22901406 from one’s registered mobile number too.

How to do EPF passbook balance check online

To check one’s EPF passbook balance online, the EPFO member needs to log in at the official EPFO website — epfindia.gov.in and follow some simple steps.

Here si step by step guide to check EPF passbook balance:

1] Log in at the official EPFO website epfindia.gov.in;

2] Click at ‘e-passbook’ link, available on the top right of the home page of EPFO portal;

3] You will be redirected to the new EPF passbook page – passbook.epfindia.gov.in;

4] Log in to the account by entering username – also known as UAN or Universal Account Number, and the password. The UAN is an identification number mentioned in the monthly salary slip of every employee;

5] Once logged in, the details on the concerned employment have to be selected. For example, someone who has worked in three different organisations will have three different member IDs to choose from. Select the member ID; and

6] After an EPFO member ID is selected, the user can view the EPF e-passbook or EPF passbook. The passbook indicates the balance in the EPF account.

EPF passbook balance check SMS number

EPFO member can do EPF balance check via SMS too. EPF passbook balance check SMS number is 7738299899. To check the EPF balance through SMS, the EPFO member can send an SMS to 7738299899 from his or her registered mobile number. The EPFO subscriber has to type “EPFOHO UAN” correctly. The facility is available in 10 languages – English (default), Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, and Bengali. For receiving the SMS in any of the languages other than English, the first three characters of the preferred language need to be added after the UAN. For example, to receive the SMS in Tamil, you should send it as “EPFOHO UAN TAM” to 7738299899.

How to do EPF passbook balance check through missed call

EPFO members can check their EPF passbook balance by giving a missed call at 011-22901406 from their registered mobile number. In case the UAN of the member is seeded with any one of the Bank account number, Aadhaar, and PAN (Permanent Account Number), the member will receive the details of the last contribution and PF balance. However, in order to avail of this facility, the mobile number must be activated with UAN at the unified EPF portal.

Apart from this, an EPFO member can check EPF passbook balance online by logging in at the UMANG App too. But, for that they will have to first download the app on their android or smartphone. Once downloaded, they will have to open the app and click at ’employee-centric services’, which will direct the user to the page. Then, the EMFO member needs to click on ‘view passbook’ and enter the UAN and one-time password (OTP), which the user will receive on the registered mobile number. After this, the member will be able to check the EPF passbook balance.
