The premium hatchback segment in India boasts of some quality products like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, Toyota Glanza, Volkswagen Polo and Honda Jazz. But if you talk about the sales, space is dominated by the Baleno, i20 and Altroz. Let us check out how these three vehicles fared in terms of sales in December 2020.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno – 18,030 units
The largest-selling premium hatchback in India in December 2020 was the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Maruti Suzuki India sold 18,030 units of the Baleno during the month. The Baleno is priced between Rs 5.90 lakh and Rs 9.10 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). It gets a couple of powertrain options — 1.2-litre VVT petrol (83PS and 113Nm) that can be paired either with a 5-speed MT or a CVT automatic, and 1.2-litre Dualjet Dual VVT smart hybrid petrol (90PS and 113Nm) that is mated to a 5-speed MT.
Hyundai i20 – 8,004 units
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno was followed by the Hyundai i20 at the second position. Hyundai Motor India sold 8,004 units of the recently-launched i20 in December 2020. The Hyundai i20 price ranges from Rs 6.80 lakh to Rs 11.33 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The customers can choose from three powertrains options — 1.2-litre Kappa (83PS/88PS and 115Nm) with 5-speed MT or IVT automatic, 1.0-litre Kappa turbo-GDi petrol (120PS and 172Nm) with 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT automatic, and 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel (100PS and 240Nm) with 6-speed MT.
Tata Altroz – 6,600 units
Trailing the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai i20 was the Tata Altroz. Tata Motors sold 6,600 units of the Altroz in December 2020. The Tata Altroz price starts at Rs 5.44 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.09 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The powertrain options include 1.2-litre Revotron petrol (86PS and 113Nm) with a 5-speed MT and 1.5-litre turbocharged Revotorq diesel (90PS and 200Nm) with a 5-speed MT.
