Unlock 2.0 guidelines by June 30, some international flights likely to resume: Sources

The central government is likely to issue guidelines for Unlock 2.0 around June 30. Speaking to India Today TV, sources in the government said under Unlock 2.0, the government is likely to allow air travel on selected international routes.

The sources said international flights on the New Delhi-New York, Mumbai-New York routes are likely to be allowed to resume in Unlock 2.0.

Besides this, private carriers could also be allowed to start operations to the Gulf countries, the sources said.

Asked about decisions on opening up of educational institutes and metro train services, the sources said the central government is unlikely to issue guidelines to open them because the states “appear to be reluctant” on starting them.

On June 18, in his virtual meeting with chief ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said they should now start thinking of Unlock 2.0 but at the same time also ensue the spread of coronavirus infection is minimised.

PM Modi underlined the need to “fight rumours of lockdown”, pointing out that the country is now in the “phase of unlocking”.

“We need to now think about phase 2 of Unlock and how to minimise all possibilities of harm to our people,” he said.

PM Modi noted that with reduced restrictions, indicators of economic performance are showing signs of revival. Inflation has also been kept under control, and asked states to take steps to boost infrastructure and construction-related activities.
