As a part of Reliance Jio’s broadband ecosystem, Internet of Things, or IoT, devices are deemed crucial to bring about advanced communications technology to every household in India. Not only does the Jio Fiber offer high-speed broadband, as claimed by the Mukesh Ambani-owned company, but it also supports features such as video calling. To facilitate that, the company has launched a new device, called the JioTVCamera, that will be available to all Jio Fiber users across the country.
Unlike the Jio Fiber set-top box, the JioTVCamera is chargeable for the customers but the company is providing easy payment options to sweeten the deal and increase the adoption.
JioTVCamera costs Rs 2,999 and can be purchased via the online store at jio.com. There are EMI options for customers, which will make the deal attractive. The device is currently not available on other e-commerce platforms. There are third-party cameras like the JioTVCamera but it is not clear whether they are supported by the Jio Fiber platform. But Jio’s own camera is just another addition to its family of devices that are readily available to users availing the company’s services.
For specifications, the JioTVCamera comes with a 1/2.7-inch CMOS sensor that has a 3.1mm focal length. Since the camera is for the TV, its field of view is set at 120 degrees so that a large area is covered.
Installing JioTVCamera is easy. It is a plug-and-play add-on for the Jio Fiber set-top box that enables audio and video calling. This means that if you have only the Jio Fiber router, you will need to get the set-top box to be able to use the accessory. The video calls can be made to Jio numbers only while audio calls are supported for all mobile and landline operators. You will need to plug the device into the set-top box and restart it. The installation will be done with the restart. Now, you need to set up your calling profile using the JioCall app, available for both Android and iOS.
