New Delhi: India’s only profitable telecom company Reliance Jio on Monday announced the ‘2020 Happy New Year Offer’ under which it is offering deals for mobile recharges and handsets.
Existing subscribers will get 1.5 GB data per day, unlimited voice calls, SMS for a recharge of ₹2020 which is valid for a year, Jio said in a statement.
There is another offer under the scheme where for ₹2,020, a user can buy a JioPhone bundled with 12 months of services — 0.5 GB data per day, unlimited voice calls and SMS.
The offer rolls out on Tuesday.
This comes almost three months after it had launched a Diwali offer.
In October this year, Reliance Industries Ltd has more than halved the price of its 4G feature phone – JioPhone — from ₹1,500 to ₹699 as part of a limited period Diwali offer. With this, the operator had aimed to on-board more subscribers and migrate them to 4G technology from 2G and 3G.
As of September end, Jio sold 7 crore JioPhone handsets.
Under the Diwali offer, Jio gave additional data benefits worth ₹700. And for the first seven recharges that the consumer does, Jio had offered ₹99 worth of data, it had then said.
The price-sensitive handset market has also undergone a sea change after Jio, in 2017, introduced a cheap 4G handset JioPhone with a refundable deposit of ₹1,500.
In July 2018, the company announced another device — JioPhone2 — at an introductory price of ₹2,999 with an option to exchange an old feature phone for a new Jio Phone by paying just ₹501.
