To make your train journey comfortable, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched a host of new services this year. One of them is linking your PNR numbers when you are taking connecting trains.
There are instances when the direct train tickets between two stations are not available on a particular date and the passengers need to book connecting trains. On those occasions, IRCTC’s new PNR linking option can come useful.
If you miss the connecting train because your first train gets delayed, you can ask for an easy refund if you have linked the two PNRs while booking the tickets. Here’s how to do it
1)While booking tickets from IRCTC’s official website, there is an option of “connecting journey booking” under the Trains menu.
2)Then, find the suitable train for the journey.
3)Passenger can check the accommodation available in the desired train on train list page.
4)Click on the “Book Now” button and enter the connecting PNR number. To connect the two PNRs, customer needs to input the eligible counter ticket or PNR booked with the same user ID.
5)The input PNR will be checked by IRCTC and if the the PNR is eligible for connecting journey, the passenger details will be auto-populated, according to the IRCTC website.
Mention must be made that the difference between main journey and connecting journey should not be more than five days.In case of linking the PNR of a counter ticket, IRCTC will send an OTP to the passengers mobile number and verify the connecting journey.
Only confirmed or partly confirmed tickets are allowed for linking PNRs. On partial cancellation of either of the tickets, the PNR numbers will be de-linked.
Passenger details such as name, age etc should be same in both the tickets. IRTC won’t allow modification of journey, once the PNRs are linked.
Changing the boarding station is also not allowed once you link the PNRs.
