Amarnath Yatra 2024: Anantnag gears up for smooth pilgrimage; preparations, security measures in place
The Anantnag District Administration is gearing up for the Amarnath Yatra which starts on June 29. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha joined the ‘Pratham Puja’ virtually on Saturday from Raj Bhawan in Srinagar, marking the official beginning of the Yatra. He emphasized his commitment to the pilgrimage and highlighted the significance of faith and unity.
Speaking to ANI about the preparations, LG Manoj Sinha assured that all necessary facilities and security measures are in place for the devotees. He said that from June 29th, devotees from all over the country can have darshan of ‘Baba Amarnath’. The authorities have ensured all necessary facilities are in place for the visiting devotees.
Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai said that adequate bedding arrangements are available at their lodgement centers. They have also constructed four new toilet complexes and have ensured sanitation at all lodgement centers.

Anand Jain, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Jammu, confirmed to ANI that the police are working to ensure a smooth, secure, and successful pilgrimage. He mentioned that they are reviewing the arrangements and will enforce cut-off timings to manage the flow of pilgrims to and from Jammu and Kashmir. Additional police and traffic police will be deployed on the roads under construction.

The Ministry of Home Affairs noted that Jammu and Kashmir has taken significant steps to make the Yatra safe and comfortable. Last year, over 4.5 lakh devotees participated in the pilgrimage. The Amarnath Yatra, a major annual event for Hindus, will run from June 29 to August 19 this year, involving a challenging trek to the Amarnath cave shrine. Given recent terrorist attacks in the region, security is a top priority for the government. The administration is doing everything possible to ensure the safety and well-being of the pilgrims despite the tough terrain and heightened security concerns.
